Fever is a temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit( 38 degrees Celsius) or higher.
There is not universal agreement on this and some authors consider 100 degrees Fahrenheit to be a fever.
Common causes include : infection, allergic reactions, exercise, excessive exposure to sun.
Treatment includes over the counter medications such as ibuprofen and Tylenol, lots of fluids , and cold compresses or sponging with cool water.
Never use aspirin in children.
Emergency Situations Requiring Medical Attention:
-fever + headache
-fever + stiff neck
-fever + severe throat swelling
-fever + confusion
-fever >100.5 degrees in a newborn or child less than 6 months of age.
-fever >103.0 degrees in children or adults.
-fever >101 degrees persisting more than 3 days.
